Innovate UK & Exeter City Futures: Towards Carbon Neutral Cities
Cities are where many opportunities of disruptive positive change can be found to transition to a net zero carbon society. Innovate UK and Exeter City Futures wanted to understand the types of activities and solutions that will be needed to get our urban areas to net zero, and how they may differ between locations.
The requirement was to facilitate collaboration with local policy, business and community stakeholders in both Exeter and Glasgow to develop a blueprint and action plan to get to carbon neutral by 2030.
The Brief
What we did
We worked with a diverse range of stakeholders across Exeter and Glasgow to develop indications of where the UK, and UK business, may need upskilling or development help so that Innovate UK, and other parts of the UK Government, can use this information to plan future programmes and interventions.
From previous work, we know that helping urban areas to understand trends, envisage alternative futures, and help them to understand how they can get to a world they want, rather than one they don’t, is a powerful tool for change.
